Edward A. Julian Sr. Named Ohio Poet Laureate
Cleveland’s own Edward A. Julian, Sr. has been named the 2026–27 Ohio Poet Laureate. A speaker, author, and founder of The Begin Within Initiative, Julian turned fourteen years of federal incarceration into a life of writing, mentorship, and service. Over his two-year term, he’ll deliver readings across Ohio and lead a cultural project rooted in his message that transformation begins within.
In this gripping and inspiring memoir of survival, accountability, and reentry, Edward shares his journey through original poems, powerful life lessons, eye-opening criminal justice facts, and essential resources for healing and hope.
